WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR VISIT

On the Path of Self-Healing

Perhaps you're down or anxious - maybe you're unsure about the future of a relationship, or just feel that you aren't living the life you were meant to lead. Whatever your needs may be, I am here to offer support.

You'll find yourself in a safe and supportive space in our therapeutic work together, on the path towards better emotional health, personal growth and self-actualization to the best possible version of yourself.

So...imagine that...striving for the best possible version of yourself.

What might that look like?

What might that feel like?

A version of yourself that has the coping skills and internal resources to face struggle and difficulty.

A version of yourself that can experience joy, happiness, triumph, peace and love, while also able to experience hurt, sadness, mistakes, conflict, anger - yet not be overwhelmed by any of these emotions.

Rather, you learn, adapt, and grow

- experiencing it all -

where self doubt and insecurity can give way to self love and authentic self confidence.

Imagine that.

SERVICES OFFERED

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

A Happier, Healthier You

In our therapy together, we'll work to solve current problems and gain greater insight about yourself, always approached with kindness, compassion and empathy.  We can look at thoughts, feelings and behaviors that might have gotten in your own way.  We'll gain greater recognition of behavioral patterns and belief systems that haven't served you well, and understand why they started.  And with that greater self insight, we'll integrate adaptive and positive approaches, behaviors, and self beliefs.  Stressful experiences then become more manageable, relationships with others and ourselves become healthier.  We can then walk the path of self improvement with authenticity and self-love.

COUPLES THERAPY

From Distress to Empathic Understanding & Love

"We're not getting along...we're always arguing...we've grown apart"

Conflicts in any relationship are unavoidable, but relationships suffer when distress over the conflicts becomes the predominant state of being - when actions like criticism, defensiveness, contempt, and stonewalling become our immediate response.

In couples therapy, we'll work towards managing conflict appropriately, where it can, in fact, become a constructive vehicle towards growth.  We'll rediscover and reinforce the friendship and intimacy that brought you together in the first place.  We'll foster the mindset of creating shared meaning for both of you, such that mutually created life dreams can become achievable goals.  And always, we'll approach therapy with the underlying goal of becoming the best possible version of yourself.

CHILD THERAPY / FAMILY THERAPY

Improved Communication, More Harmony

The approach with child therapy is one of patience, empathy, and compassion for the child.  But I'm a firm believer that treatment of the child without considerations to the family dynamic can be a recipe for failure.  How do family members relate and engage with each other?
When stressors / trauma befall the child, or family as a whole, we'll work to resolve the distress and pain.
When conflict within the family occurs (as it inevitably does), is it approached with the goal of resolution and love, or blame and negativity?  We'll take a systemic and wholistic approach to shift patterns from maladaptive to adaptively healthy.
And as with individual and couples therapy, we'll approach it all towards the mindset of you becoming the best possible version of yourself.

FEEDBACK I’VE RECEIVED

Ernie Ponce has been our family therapist for two years.  He has been responsible for turning our son's life around.  Under Ernie's knowledge & guidance, our son has embraced his diagnosis of Bipolar II Disorder positively, and is continually working to be happy and productive while adhering to his medicine regimen.
Ernie's holistic and team approach (psychiatrist, family, community & health) are refreshing techniques in a tired system.  Our family is blessed to have him in our community.

I have known Ernie for more than 10 years.  I have watched him grow into the compassionate and wise therapist he is today.  Each step he takes is well considered.  He is measured, realistic, optimistic, and dedicated.  He has a unique ability to create and hold a safe space to explore edges of your experience with compassionate, informed listening.  He brings a diverse, strong background of therapeutic tools to bear on any situation and is skilled at knowing the right approaches for each person.  I am immensely grateful to have Ernie in my life.

I have been meeting with Ernie Ponce for years now.  My reasons for initially seeing him were battling with drug addiction and fighting/ poorly communicating with my wife of many years (the 2 might just be linked).  While Ernie is not a drug counselor, he has always been willing to hear me out, and call me out on my bs if it was called for.
My wife and I now still disagree; however we hear the other one, stay calm, choose our words carefully, and empathetically come to agreements on a daily basis without raising our voices or saying mean things, etc.
Thank you Ernie.

Ernie Ponce is a jewel in the crown of his profession.  He knows his craft, his calling.  No further embellishment is necessary.  See him, or see someone else who is lacking in his humanity.

In January of 2020, I contacted Ernie Ponce for couples counseling.  At that time, I really thought it was the beginning of the end of my marriage.
When I first spoke with Ernie on the phone, I was a mess!  Ernie's voice was calm and soothing.  I immediately felt safe to talk about the issues going on in my marriage.
During our sessions together, Ernie has taught both my husband and I a new style of communicating that requires more listening and less reacting.  Ernie has given us the tools that have helped my husband and I to be more present for each other and emotionally connected once again.
Thank you Ernie for all of your help and for bringing my husband back to me.

Client B

When the pandemic hit us hard and life as we knew it shut down, I found myself having a difficult time.  I used to be able to sweep under the rug the aspects of my life that were the hardest, because I was always so busy living life.  However the isolation of the pandemic prevented that and I found myself having more time
to face the things I was once not facing.
I heard Ernie speak on a podcast about dealing with the pandemic and was drawn to the words he used, his insight, and the calmness of his demeanor.  I always thought my problems were too small or not significant enough to see a therapist.  But after hearing Ernie speak, I decided to reach out to him.
At our initial consultation, I was immediately hopeful by how he could help me. He changed my thought process on how "therapy was not for me", and gave me hope about the new person I would become.
Within six months, I can honestly say I am a whole new person.  Everything I do and how I deal with people has changed.  People even comment that there "is something different about me",
and yes there is, and I owe that to Ernie.
He has helped me change parts of me I thought I couldn't, and has given me the courage to do things I would never have done.  You can have a healthy body, but without a healthy mindset, you can't be complete.
My time with Ernie has helped me complete that missing piece.

Client D

I highly recommend Ernie Ponce to anyone in need of psychological support.  Before working with him, I was in a really bad place mentally, and didn't know how to cope with my challenges.  However, with Ernie's help, I have seen tremendous progress in my mental health and am now much better.  His compassion and understanding nature, combined with his expertise in psychology, have provided me with the tools and support I needed to overcome my struggles.  I am truly grateful to have found such a caring and effective therapist.
